Less than two weeks before Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit the US, Washington announced a new partnership with India on Monday to explore opportunities within the semiconductor supply chain. This initiative will include a comprehensive assessment of India’s semiconductor ecosystem, regulatory framework, workforce, and infrastructure needs. The findings will form the basis for potential future joint initiatives aimed at strengthening and expanding this crucial sector, according to the US.

This announcement follows India’s recent signing of a semiconductor ecosystem partnership with Singapore during Modi’s visit last week.

Modi is expected to travel to the US between September 21 and 24 to attend the Quad leaders’ summit, the Summit of the Future, and a diaspora event.

The US State Department stated that it will collaborate with the India Semiconductor Mission, part of the Ministry of Electronics and IT, Government of India, to explore ways to grow and diversify the global semiconductor ecosystem under the International Technology Security and Innovation (ITSI) Fund, established by the CHIPS Act of 2022.

“This partnership will contribute to creating a more resilient, secure, and sustainable global semiconductor value chain,” the US State Department said in its statement.
