The tech giant will no longer position the label directly under the user’s name for posts with AI-modified content.
Meta has updated its labeling policy again for posts on Instagram, Facebook, and Threads that have been edited or changed using AI tools.
The company announced that the ‘AI Info’ label will no longer be shown directly under a user’s name for posts with AI-modified content. Instead, it will be hidden in the post’s menu, which can be accessed by clicking the three dots above the post.
However, posts that are fully created by AI will still have the ‘AI Info’ label in the original spot. Meta also mentioned that it will explain whether the label comes from industry standards or if it was added because the user disclosed it.
These changes are expected to roll out next week, Meta said on Thursday, September 12. As AI tools become more advanced, it might be harder for users to recognize modified content since the ‘AI Info’ label will be less noticeable in the menu.
Back in July, Meta faced backlash for wrongly tagging real photos as ‘Made with AI.’ In response, the company changed the label to ‘AI Info’ to clarify that the posts may have been edited using AI tools, rather than being entirely created by AI.
