Malicious hackers sent unwanted emails to Biden’s re-election team, using text stolen from former President Trump’s campaign.
In June, Iranian hackers tried to interfere in the U.S. presidential election by sending emails to President Joe Biden’s re-election team, according to U.S. law enforcement agencies. These hackers reportedly stole materials from Donald Trump’s campaign, who is the Republican nominee.
The U.S. presidential election, scheduled for November 5, has faced claims of foreign interference before, which Iran has denied. However, the FBI, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, and Office of the Director of National Intelligence, in a joint statement, shared new findings.
The statement said, “Since June, Iranian hackers have continued trying to share stolen, private material from Trump’s campaign with U.S. media outlets.” Despite this, Iran’s mission to the United Nations in New York did not respond to requests for comments, according to Reuters.
In a surprising move, President Joe Biden has withdrawn from the race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee. This decision came after growing pressure within the party for Biden to step aside, especially after a difficult debate with Donald Trump on June 27, aired on CNN.
The Harris campaign commented on the hacking news, saying, “We have not received any direct material. A few team members were targeted through personal emails that seemed like spam or phishing attempts.”
The agencies also stated that these hackers sent unwanted emails to Biden’s team, using text stolen from Trump’s campaign.
